أعلن وزير الدفاع النيجري إيسوفو كاتامبي لوكالة فرانس برس السبت أن مواطنا أميركيا خُطف على أيدي مسلّحين في النيجر في وقت سابق هذا الأسبوع أُفرج عنه.
وقال كاتامبي “أؤكد أنه تم الإفراج عن الرهينة الأميركي الليلة الماضية”، بدون أن يدلي بتفاصيل عن ظروف الإفراج عنه أو مكان تواجده. والرهينة فيليب والتن، الذي وصف بإنه نجل مبشر يعيش في النيجر، خُطف ليل الاثنين على أطراف قرية ماسالاتا التي تبعد نحو 10 كلم عن الحدود مع نيجيريا.
من جهتها أعلنت وزارة الدفاع الأميركية اليوم السبت أن المواطن الأميركي الذي خُطف على أيدي مسلّحين في النيجر في وقت سابق هذا الأسبوع تم تحريره بفضل عملية قامت بها القوات الأميركية في شمال نيجيريا.
وذكر المتحدث باسم البنتاغون جوناثان هوفمان في بيان أن “القوات الأميركية نفذت عملية في وقت مبكر من 31 أكتوبر في شمال نيجيريا لتحرير مواطن أميركي اختطفته مجموعة مسلحة”. وكان وزير الدفاع النيجري إيسوفو كاتامبي قد أعلن في وقت سابق لوكالة فرانس برس الافراج عن الرهينة فيليب والتن.
