أعلن الجيش السنغالي ، ليل البارحة ، عن شن عملية عسكرية ضد متمردي الحركة الديمقراطية لقوى كازامانس. وقال الجيش الغامبي ، الذي يراقب الحدود ، إن الاشتباكات وقعت على الجانب السنغالي لمساعدة السكان المتضررين .
وقال الجيش السنغالي إن الهدف الرئيسي من هذا القصف هو تفكيك قواعد فصيل Mfdc في Salif Sadio ، الواقعة على طول الحدود الشمالية مع غامبيا.
وتأتي هذه العملية العسكرية بعد أقل من شهرين على مقتل 4 جنود سنغاليين وأسر 7 آخرين على أيدي المتمردين، ثم إطلاق سراحهم في المنطقة الحدودية مع غامبيا.
حيث ينتمون جميعًا إلى البعثة العسكرية لغرب إفريقيا في غامبيا (Ecomig).
وأكدت غامبيا وقوع القصف على بعد نحو 10 كيلومترات من حدودها ، مما اسفر عن نزوح مئات العائلات الغامبية المتضررة من النزاع.
التجمعات الحدودية المتضررة هي بالين وجيلانفاري وكارونور وجيكيس وكابا جيلانفار وسيتانونكو.
وقد وصل فريق من دوريات الحدود التابعة للقوات المسلحة الغامبية بقيادة المقدم عمر بوجانج إلى كابا وبالين يوم الأحد لمراقبة الوضع ، حسبما ذكرت تقارير صحفية في غامبيا.
