قال الرئيس الغامبي أداما بارو يوم الأربعاء إن نائب رئيس غامبيا ، بادارا أليو جوف ، توفي متأثرا بالمرض في الهند.
تم تعيين جوف ، 65 عامًا ، نائبًا لرئيس الدولة الواقعة في غرب إفريقيا عام 2022. وشغل سابقًا منصب وزير التعليم من 2017 إلى 2022.
وقال بارو على “تويتر ” إن جوف توفي “بعد مرض قصير” ، دون تقديم مزيد من التفاصيل ، بما في ذلك وقت وفاته.
كان نائب الرئيس قد غادر غامبيا منذ حوالي ثلاثة أسابيع لطلب العلاج الطبي ولم يُشاهد علنًا منذ شهور قبل الرحلة.
ويعتبر جوف رابع نائب من نواب يخدمون تحت قيادة بارو منذ فوزه التاريخي في 2016 على الرجل القوي السابق يحيى جامح والثاني منذ إعادة انتخاب الرئيس في عام 2021.
عمل نائب الرئيس الراحل سابقًا في الخدمة المدنية الغامبية ولاحقًا في البنك الدولي كأخصائي تعليم لغرب ووسط إفريقيا ، ونقل تجربته هناك إلى وطنه كوزير للتعليم العالي والبحث والعلوم والتكنولوجيا.
