اختار الأمين العام للأمم المتحدة، أنطونيو غوتيريش، السنغالي عبد الله باتيلي ممثلا خاصا له في ليبيا ورئيسا لبعثة الأمم المتحدة للدعم فيها (أونسميل).
وذكر بيان نشر على الموقع الإلكتروني للأمم المتحدة، فجر السبت، أن باتيلي سيخلف السلوفاكي يان كوبيش في منصب المبعوث الخاص ورئيس بعثة أونسميل.
وقال البيان إن باتيلي يجلب بتعيينه في المنصب “خبرة تزيد عن 40 عاما شغل خلالها مناصب ضمن حكومته الوطنية والمؤسسات الأكاديمية والمنظمات الإقليمية ومنظومة الأمم المتحدة”.
وأعرب الأمين العام، أنطونيو غوتيريش، عن امتنانه لخدمته للمنظمة، وفق البيان.
وشغل باتيلي في أحدث مهامه مع الأمم المتحدة عام 2021 منصب الخبير المستقل للمراجعة الاستراتيجية لبعثة أونسميل.
كما شغل سابقا منصب نائب الممثل الخاص للأمين العام في بعثة الأمم المتحدة المتكاملة المتعددة الأبعاد (مينوسما) بين عامي 2013-2014، ومنصب الممثل الخاص للأمين العام في أفريقيا الوسطى ورئيس مكتب الأمم المتحدة الإقليمي في الغابون (2014-2016).
وفي عام 2018، تم تعيينه كمستشار خاص للأمين العام بشأن مدغشقر، كما عمل كخبير مستقل للمراجعة الاستراتيجية لمكتب الأمم المتحدة لغرب أفريقيا عام 2019. –
