وعن ترشحه ضمن ائتلاف “بنو بوك ياكار ” أكد أنه كان من بين المتنافسين. وأضاف: «كنت مستعداً لتحمل المسؤوليات كمرشح منتخب»، موضحاً أنه استوفى كافة الشروط المطلوبة، مسلطاً الضوء على تجربته كمسؤول منتخب. وشدد على أن “كل واحد منا لديه واجب حتمي للحفاظ على هذا الاستثناء السنغالي الذي ورثه أسلافنا”. وأضاف: “بعد تفكير متأن، قررت الاستجابة لنداء رئيس الجمهورية بتغليب الوحدة قبل خمسة أشهر من الانتخابات الرئاسية. وبناء على ذلك فإنني أسحب ترشيحي”.
ودعا جميع السنغاليين إلى الالتزام بالحفاظ على المكتسبات وتحقيق انتصار تحالف بنو بوك ياكار مساء يوم 25 فبراير 2024.
