وقالت اليونسكو عبر موقعها الاليكتروني تتمثّل الغاية من هذا الموضوع في إبراز الدور التاريخي الذي تضطلع به اللغة العربية كأداة لاستحداث المعارف وتناقلها، فضلاً عن كونها وسيلة للارتقاء بالحوار وإرساء أسس السلام. وكانت اللغة العربية على مرّ القرون الركيزة المشتركة وحلقة الوصل التي تجسّد ثراء الوجود الإنساني وتتيح الانتفاع بالعديد من الموارد.
ويكتسب موضوع عام 2021 أهميّة بالغة في كنف المجتمعات التي تتعاظم فيها العولمة والرقمنة والتعددية اللغوية، إذ يُسلّم بالطبيعة المتغيّرة للعالم والحاجة الماسة لتعزيز الحوار بين الأمم والشعوب.
من جانبه قال السيدة أودري أزولاي، المديرة العامة لليونسكو، في رسالة لها بمناسبة هذا اليوم: “تعد اللغة العربية حلقة وصل بين الثقافات لا تحدها حدود المكان والزمان، وتجسّد اللغة العربية حقاً التنوع.
تعتزم اليونسكو، في هذا اليوم العالمي، الاحتفال بدور مجامع اللغة العربية والوقوف على أبعاده. فلا يقتصر دور هذه المجامع على حفظ اللغة العربية وإثرائها وتعزيزها، بل يشمل أيضاً المساعدة على رصد استخدامها في نقل معلومات دقيقة في سياق الأحداث العالمية الراهنة.”
