نادرا ما تجود أرحام النساء بأمثال الفقيد الكبير أمادو مختار امبو ،
رجل قضى حياته من صباه إلى أرذل عمره في خدمة العلم وتربية الأجيال ،وكان خلال هذا كله نظيف الطوية ، واضح الهدف موسوعيا نقي السريرة،
عمل أمينًا عاما لليونسكو لمدة لا تقل عن ثلاثة عشر عاما فأرسى أسسا للعدالة بين الشعوب ، وطبق قاعدة المساواة بين الغرب والشرق ، بين الدول التي ترى نفسها فوق الجميع وبين الدول التي توصف بالمتخلفة، وظل رحمه اللهَ حرا طليقا في اتخاذ القرارات ، شامخا أمام صناع القرار في عالم مزدوج المعايير .
لكن الأروع من كل هذا حسن تمسكه بعقيدته و تدينه الملفت واحترامه لمبادئ دينه الإسلامي ،
سافرت معه في عام 2002 تلبية لدعوة كريمة من القيادة السعودية للمشاركة في فعاليات مناسبة عشرينية وصول الملك فهد بن عبد العزيز لسدة الحكم ،فوصلنا مدينة الرياض قبل الاحتفال بيوم ،فأصر السيد أمادو مختار على أداء العمرة وزيارة الحبيب محمد صلى الله عليه وسلم قبل كل شيء
فوافقت المراسيم على تحقيق هذا الطلب النبيل
رحم الله البروفيسور أمادو مختار امبو الذي ستظل مواقفه راسخة في الأذهان ،مكتوبة بماء من الذهب الخالص في سجل تاريخ بلادنا والعالم .
