ارتفاع كبير بعدد الوفيات الناجمة عن السرطان في أفريقيا
كشفت دراسة أجرتها مجموعة دولية من مستشاري السرطان، أن عدد الأشخاص الذين يموتون بسبب السرطان في جنوب الصحراء الإفريقية يمكن أن يصل بل وتجاوز المليون شخص سنويا في غضون ثماني سنوات.
وأفاد التقرير، الذي نقلته وكالة “أسوشيتد برس”، بأن الارتفاع في حالات الوفيات ناتج بشكل أساسي عن سرطان عنق الرحم والثدي والبروستاتا”.
وشكلت المجلة الطبية The Lancet Oncology، لجنة من المتخصصين في السرطان، للنظر في الأعداد المتزايدة من وفيات السرطان في 54 دولة إفريقية جنوب الصحراء.
ووجد الباحثون، أن الوفيات الناجمة عن السرطان في المنطقة ستتضاعف تقريبا لتصل إلى مليون حالة وفاة سنويا بحلول عام 2030.
كما حذر التقرير من ارتفاع حالات الإصابة بالسرطان إلى 1.4 مليون حالة سنويا ما لم يتم تطوير أنظمة صحية للتعامل مع عدد أكبر من الحالات.
ووفقا لتقرير لانسيت، فإن واحدة من كل سبع نساء في إفريقيا جنوب الصحراء معرضة لخطر الإصابة بالسرطان، والأكثر انتشارا هو سرطان عنق الرحم، يليه سرطان الثدي.
وكان سرطان عنق الرحم، السبب الرئيسي للوفيات بين النساء في 27 دولة، بينما كان سرطان الثدي السبب الرئيسي للوفيات في 21 دولة.
