بارتدائه مئزر الأكان، والقلائد المقدسة، والصولجان الذهبي، لم يقتصر عثمان سونكو على زيارة دبلوماسية إلى كوت ديفوار فحسب، بل قام أيضًا بعمل رمزي مؤثر، كقائد أفريقي اختار نهج التقارب الثقافي بدلًا من البروتوكول البارد والبعيد.
