الصحة العالمية تشيد بجهود إفريقيا مع جائحة كورونا

أشادت منظمة الصحة العالمية، الخميس، بأسلوب تعاطي قارة إفريقيا مع جائحة كورونا، على خلفية انخفاض الإصابات بها.

وقالت ماتشيديسو مويتي، المديرة الإقليمية للمنظمة في إفريقيا، إن القارة سجلت أكثر من 1.4 مليون إصابة بفيروس كورونا، فيما فقد 34 ألف شخص حياتهم.

وأضافت مويتي، في إفادة إعلامية افتراضية، أن معظم الحكومات الإفريقية فرضت بشكل سريع قيودًا على الحركة والتجمعات؛ وهذا خلق فرصة لإبقاء عدد الحالات منخفضة وتعزيز قدرات مرافق الصحة العامة.

وتابعت: “بشكل عام، أثني حقًا على الاستجابة في البلدان الإفريقية، إننا نحقق تقدمًا بفضل الجهود المتضافرة للحكومات والمجتمعات والشركاء”.

وأشارت أن المنظمة لا ترى أن هناك أدلة على “وفيات زائدة بسبب فيروس كورونا أو وفيات لم يتم تسجيلها”.

وأوضحت أن التقييمات الأولية للمنظمة تشير إلى أن أكثر من 80 بالمئة من إصابات كورونا في إفريقيا لا تظهر عليها أعراض المرض.

ولفتت أن الدراسات جارية الآن لاختبار ما إذا كان الناس لديهم أجسام مضادة للفيروس، مما يعني إصابتهم به دون اكتشاف ذلك.

وأضافت أن بعض النتائج الأولية تشير إلى أن الإصابات أعلى مما تم تسجيله.

بدوره، قال مدير المركز الإفريقي لمراقبة الأمراض والوقاية منها جون نكينجاسونج، في مؤتمر صحفي، إن معدل التعافي في إفريقيا خلال الأسبوع الماضي بلغ 82 بالمئة، مشيرا لثباته خلال الأسابيع الماضية.

ووفقًا لأحدث الأرقام الصادرة عن المركز، فقد تعافى 1.18 مليون شخص في جميع أنحاء القارة من أصل 1.45 مليون إصابة.
