أعلن مستشار الشؤون السياسية بالخارجية الأمريكية ديريك شولت أن بلاده ستمنح السنغال 12 مليون دولار أي ما يقارب ست مليارات فرنك غرب إفريقي، عن طريق الوكالة الأمريكية للتنمية الدولية وذلك لمساعدتها على الخروج من الأزمة الاقتصادية والغذائية الناتجة عن الحرب في أوكرانيا.
وأكد ديريك شوليت، أثناء زيارته للسنغال، على المكانة التي تحتلها داكار في السياسة الدولية الأمريكية، مشيرا إلى أن هذه الزيارة تعكس الأهمية التي توليها الولايات المتحدة لشراكتها مع السنغال.
وأضاف المستشار بالخارجية الأمريكية أن البلدان يواصلان العمل معًا على عدة أهداف مشتركة من بينها ضمان الأمن والاستقرار الإقليميين، وتعزيز الرخاء الاقتصادي والأمن الغذائي والتعليم، وتعزيز القيم الديمقراطية واحترام حقوق الإنسان.
وكان من المقرر أن يزور المستشار الأمريكي موريتانيا قبل أن يتم إلغاء الزيارة بعد تأجيل الرحلة التي كان سيصل على متنها لنواكشوط.
